Women In Defense, Michigan chapter (WID-Michigan) recently hosted a charity bowling fundraiser and raised more than $4,200 to benefit the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund. The event included 120 attendees from local defense organizations, including defense contractors and suppliers.

“It is an honor for our organization to shine the spotlight on our warriors and their families who deserve our assistance,” said Major General Amy S. Courter, CAP/USAFX, president of WID-Michigan. “WID-Michigan created this event to support veterans in our local communities and we are pleased that our WID-Michigan sponsors came forward with generous donations.”

Now in its third year, the WID-Michigan fundraiser benefits a non-profit organization that supports Michigan veterans. This year’s recipient, the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund, is an organization that helps veterans in Michigan from the Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns.

"We'd like to give a special thanks to WID-Michigan for its generosity and support," said Chris Cornelius, co-founder of the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund. "This donation will allow us to help military families with expenses, such as visiting their injured loved ones in the hospital, supporting handicapped veterans and assisting the spouses and children of fallen soldiers."

The winner of the bowling fundraiser was Oshkosh Defense and ASG Renaissance, who achieved the "Best Team Score". Maj. Gen. Courter and Heidi Warren, WID-Michigan’s events director, presented the winning team with trophies.

Motor City Stamping of Chesterfield, Mich., sponsored this year’s WID-Michigan bowling fundraiser.

In addition to the bowling fundraiser, WID-Michigan hosts a charity golf outing each year. The golf outing supports the organization’s HORIZONS scholarship program.
